Let's crack open a can of new year, shall we?
I, like many people, wait for an occasion to start things. I don't ask for anything momentous, but the "fresh start" that a new year promises seems an irresistible chance at beginning new challenges and adventures. The list amassed is a pristine schedule of all the great that will be done this year. And most years, that list just stays where it's written, cleanly and carefully on the first clean sheet of an old notebook. See, I'm not one for following routines and a list is often just a routine weakly disguised in discount cape and mustache. It's the following of the list that gets me and it is so often why I both curse and envy the resolutions of others.
And were this January of last year, the paragraph above would be the end of my quibbling with lists and resolutions and things I might like to do. I would have bemoaned the fact that I began this blog, not on the first but on the bloody fifth. (And in case you were wondering, the fifth is never conducive with new ventures) I would have put it off for a less busy day and lightly stressed about my lack of commitment.
But 2011 had a heart of gold, rubbed me the right way and gave me more than I could have possibly asked for. I studied slip-casting in Denmark, re-found improv, destroyed a friendship, turned in a 3.8 semester GPA and met people who read and laugh and talk into the wee hours of the morning. But that's fodder for a lazy day's post. In short, 2011 gave me a point of reference. It turned out wonderfully, not because of resolutions or planning, but because I realized that I really am awesome. I don't need a fix-it list for my past year's failures. I need a kick ass, HELLS YEAH statute of the awesome shit I will bring about this year. So, for the moment, my edict is as follows:

I need a kick ass, HELLS YEAH statute of the awesome shit I will bring about this year. So, for the moment, my edict is as follows:
- I will draw EVERY day. No misses, no excuses, there is always time.
- cont.) I will finish/start/continue the universe in my head on paper, even if it's shit and horrible ugly, it will be out.
- Start a blog. Even if no one reads it or likes it, it exists. And there are a hell of a lot of people who enjoy reading about the boring filler of a strangers life because it is the boring that makes you different.
- I will study burlesque and belly dancing.
- Along similar lines, I will concentrate on increasing my flexibility, control and strength.
- One book, every two weeks.
- Every week I will find a new place.
There it is. I'll add to it most likely but as is, it's a pretty good map of where I'd like to be sometime in the future. Until then, I leave you with an unintentionally empty promise of introductions, back-story (the shameless self promotion!) and drawings.
Til' then,
